Assistant Athletic Trainer
Sports Medicine is seeking a highly motivated assistant Athletic Trainer who can embody our mission statement in providing a positive healthcare experiences for high-performance athletes through Evidence Based Practices, using a collaborative, solutions centered approach.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with scheduling and organizing team pre-participation physicals and review of athletes' health
history. Assist team physician(s) with orthopedic screenings.
• Assist in annually providing students and parents/guardians with written information regarding the
University Athletic Injury and Insurance and Claims Policy.
• Possibly serve as a Preceptor to an assigned masters athletic training student, and work cohesively with
Masters of Athletic Training Education Department.
• Reduce and recognize environmental hazards, thereby creating a safe environment.
• Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management
and rehabilitation.
• Provide emergency and first aid care and treatment of acute injuries with the ability to execute the EAP.
• Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating
procedures as well as NATA Position Statements.
• Refer athletes accordingly and appropriately.
• In order to minimize risk of injury- Educate, promote awareness and coordinate/implement injury
prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs.
• Oversee selection of proper fitting plus maintenance of protective equipment, including adhesive tape,
bandages and orthoses.
• Work proactively and effectively with the SUU Sports Performance/Strength & Conditioning as well as
SUU Sports Nutrition staff.
• Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport as well as weight room activities for the
student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
• Electronic documentation of all patient encounters with Sportswear.
• Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes including, but not
limited to, injury reports.
• Coordinate primary and University insurance information for medical providers as well as acquiring and
maintaining primary insurance information for individual athletes.
• Maintain cleanliness, quality and keep order of equipment and supplies.
• Apply and assist with University and Athletic Department policies and regulations in regard to the
use/abuse of alcohol and drugs as well as testing.
• Participate in Athletic Department meetings.
• Be aware of and practice the NATA Code of Ethics as well as the Health Insurance Portability and
• Accountability Act (HIPPA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA).
• Foster and maintain positive student body, staff and faculty relations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekend, and some holidays.
• Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Years of experience:
• Entry Level, 1-2 years preferred.
• Previous Gymnastics or Performing Arts experience preferred.
• Education:
• Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred.
• Certification, licenses, registration:
• Must be BOC certified and possess Utah state athletic training licensure, certification or registration.
• NPI Number Required.
• CPR/AE D Certification required.
