JOB SUMMARY

The role of a Prevention Specialist at Peace House encompasses providing crucial education, resources, and support to individuals, particularly focusing on those who may be vulnerable to experiencing poor health and wellness outcomes, including children at critical developmental stages.

At Peace House, our Prevention & Education programming aims to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence within the community. The Prevention Specialist will play a pivotal role in this mission, delivering developmentally appropriate prevention education to students from Pre-Kindergarten through K-12 across Summit and Wasatch Counties. This education covers vital topics such as recognizing abuse, understanding power dynamics, fostering safety, and cultivating healthy relationships.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community/School Presentations:

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver tailored presentations for local schools, in-house programs, parents, school personnel, and conferences to effectively address relevant topics.

Team Collaboration:

  • Actively participate in weekly team meetings, engaging in discussions and contributing insights.
  • Attend professional training sessions as directed by the supervisor to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Fulfill responsibilities assigned during weekly meetings and actively serve on Peace House, Inc. committees.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with staff, volunteers, and constituents to foster a collaborative environment.

Data Reporting:

  • Accurately input data into the Apricot Database on a weekly basis to ensure the integrity of information.
  • Provide weekly summaries of community presentations to the Prevention Coordinator for review and feedback.
  • Assist in generating data reports and preparing presentation summaries to support grant writing efforts.

Events Coordination:

  • Collaborate in the planning, creation, and distribution of promotional materials for community events, and actively participate in outreach efforts.
  • Demonstrate comfort and proficiency in engaging with various media platforms, including newspapers, television, and radio, to promote Peace House initiatives.

Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with key stakeholders including community partners, educators, counselors, administrators, and School Boards.
  • Represent Peace House, Inc. at community meetings and events, advocating for the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Pursue training opportunities such as QPR (suicide prevention), Trauma Informed Care, and UCASA Sexual Assault Counselor training to enhance professional competencies.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain effective c ollaborative relationships with agency staff and any other organizations, individuals, and community partners important to the success of Peace House's work.

REPORTS TO: Prevention Coordinator

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to complete 40 hours of CORE Domestic Violence (DV) and Sexual Assault Training within 12 months, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing knowledge and skills in these critical areas.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites and Adobe products preferred, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire proficiency in these tools.
  • Must successfully pass a background check, ensuring suitability for employment in roles involving vulnerable populations.
  • Possession of current First Aid and CPR certification preferred, or willingness to obtain training within the first month of employment, prioritizing the safety and well-being of individuals served.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with youth, showcasing an understanding of their unique needs and challenges.
  • Possession of a current valid Driver's License and Insurance, enabling reliable transportation and adherence to organizational requirements for travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience Preferred, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and expertise in relevant fields.
  • Previous experience in social services, illustrating a dedication to supporting vulnerable populations and promoting well-being within communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and sexual violence dynamics, underscoring a comprehensive understanding of these critical issues and their impact on individuals and communities.
  • Familiarity with Teen Dating Violence and Child Abuse dynamics, highlighting a nuanced understanding of additional challenges faced by youth and families.
  • Proven public speaking experience, showcasing the ability to effectively communicate complex topics with clarity and confidence to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Spanish-speaking, Native American, and LGBTQIA+ communities, reflecting cultural competency and a commitment to inclusivity and diversity in service provision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional lifting, carrying, and hauling of supplies 25 pounds or less; travel and attending offsite meetings.
